QUILTING SERVICES
While many of us enjoy designing and piecing a quilt top, the thought of wrestling your quilt through a home sewing machine can stop you cold. So the quilt tops start stacking up, waiting to be finished. Maybe you are a hand quilter, but your back and knees can't take basting a quilt by hand. Embroidery Design Threads will transform your unfinished quilt tops into finished works of art. We also can take the physical burden of basting away, leaving you to do what you love, hand quilting. All of this is done with quality and care in my smoke free/pet free studio.
Quilting/Basting Services Quilting prices are per square inch. For example, a 70" x 90" quilt = 6,300 square inches. A Pantograph quilted on a quilt of this size at .015 per square inch would cost $94.50. All services have a minimum charge of $30.

crawling around on the floor! Parallel rows of long basting stitches, placed 4-5" apart, secure your quilt layers. Large Meander Allover: Features a large all over meandering or other simple freehand design. Space between quilting is medium, three-four inches. For T-Shirt quilting only a large meander is used to avoid bulky intersections, or a simple star or X in the square. Pantograph Patterns: Edge to edge quilting using a detailed, interlocking pantograph pattern. Please see my photo section for a selection of pantograms available. If you don’t see one that you want, let me know the name of the designer and the name of the panto so that I may purchase the design. Custom: Many traditional quilting designs including stitch in the ditch (SID), cross hatching, setting a design on each block, some small stippling, outlining of motifs, more detailed freehand designs, and separate border treatments.
Batting You may supply your own batting or purchase it from Embroidery Design Threads. Please note I do not accept thin, un-bonded battings that are fragile and therefore not suited for use on a longarm quilting machine. If you would like me to carry a specific batting type or brand, please let me know! If you do wish to supply your own batting, it must be at least 6" longer and wider than the quilt top, in order to attach the batting to the quilt frame.

Backing If you wish to supply the backing fabric for your quilt, please purchase 100% cotton premium quilting fabric or muslin. These are available from fabric shops online or at your local quilt shop. Wide width fabrics are preferred (90" to 120" widths) so there will be no seam lines. If you wish to purchase narrower width fabrics, please let me instruct you on how best to piece it. There will be an additional charge of $20.00 for pre-washing, piecing, pressing and squaring the backing fabric. The supplied backing must be at least 6" longer and wider than the quilt top, in order to attach the backing to the quilt frame. Bed sheets are not recommended for the backing fabric. Please click here for "Preparation Tips for Longarm Quilting Customers".
Thread There will be a small charge for thread depending on the type of thread chosen and the size (in square inches) of the quilt. This will be included on your Work Order and Estimate form. I offer a variety of colors in Signature 100% cotton, Perma-Core (poly-wrapped poly), monofilament, variegated, and other specialty threads. If I don't have it, I can order it! Thread changes are $3 each.
Miscellaneous Labor Charges Please make sure your quilt top and backing are pressed well so that all seams lie flat. Clip all stray threads. Double check to make sure the backing and quilt top are square. Any additional labor needed for pressing, clipping, squaring, seaming and preparation of the backing material, or seam repairs will be charged at $15 per hour.
Binding Calculating the total linear inches is easy. For example, a 70" x 90" quilt would have 320 linear inches of edge (70" + 70" + 90" + 90" = 320"). If you are unsure, I can help you calculate how much yardage to supply for the binding. Most often, this would be about one yard of 100% cotton fabric.
Shipping If shipping is necessary, I use Federal Express Home, Ground or Overnight services. I strongly recommend full insurance for the shipment.
